What Matters Now…as a marketer

A contextual end of year free e-book from Seth Godin called What Matters Now.  Seth’s Blog describes the e-book as “Here are more than seventy big thinkers, each sharing an idea for you to think about as we head into the new year.Can we get this in the hands of 5 million people?”

The e-book has been a good read for me on my annual vacation. have had the time to go through it in detail and think in depth. At the end of it, I see the “70 thoughts” falling into two buckets: marketing and self development.

As a marketer, I think the following are important to integrate in one’s work in 2010:

  • Celebrate: A simple one. Why does anyone not do this yet?
  • One percenters: Cannot think of any Indian examples, am sure there will be a few in the physical world
  • Productivity: Don’t worry about getting things done. Make things happen. Need I say more?
  • Dignity: In a world where everyone is connected, its time to remove physical barriers and information asymmetry, and enable people to earn a living with dignity. Dignity comes from creating your own destiny, and Grameen/SKS/Acumen Fund have shown that way.
