What is a Marketing Technopologist?

I believe 2010 will see a lot more noise around “Marketing Technopologist”, a word believed to be coined first in a MIT Sloan Management Review titled  The Secrets of Marketing in a Web 2.0 World

A breakdown of the term does not make it very difficult to understand: triumvirate of marketing, technology and psychology/sociology. To quote from the MIT article “We coined the term marketing technopologist for a person who brings together strengths in marketing, technology and social interaction.

The role of a Marketing Technopologist is that of a foot soldier and is one of the seven principles that the authors lay down for marketing in a Web 2.0 World. A quicklist of these seven principles:

  1. Don’t just talk at consumers, walk with them
  2. Give consumers a reason to participate
  3. Listen to, and join, the conversation outside your site
  4. Resist the temptation to sell
  5. Don’t control, let it go
  6. Find a Marketing Technopologist
  7. Embrace experimentation
